Inaugural P5/P6 English Debate Tournament is a Smashing Success: Champions chosen!!!
The first-ever SISB English Debate took place on Wednesday, March 29 March, 2023 in the SISB Pracha Uthit CAMC. The event was an amazing success! Student competitors impressed parents, teachers, and Senior Management with their logical arguments, persuasive use of English, and public speaking skills. After an initial audition to select participants, 4 teams of P5 and P6 students had been practising since the beginning of Term 2. All 4 teams were extremely well-prepared, and entered the debate tournament ready to do “battle” with their peers.
The debate began with a Knock-out Round, in which two teams debated the motion: Homework Should Be Banned in Schools. In the second segment of the Knock-out Round, the two other teams debated the motion: Students Should Not Have To Wear Uniforms. The winning teams then proceeded to the Championship Round, where they debated the motion: Children under 14 should not be allowed to use social media. Judges, parents, teachers and students alike applauded the intricate arguments of both teams’ contestants, which were supported by impressive factual research. After intense deliberation by the judges, the English Debate Champion was declared to be Team A: BamBam (P6 Hope), NamKaeng (P5 Joy), Jayda (P5 Joy), and Munich (P6 Hope). All were awarded trophies.
Second Place trophies went to Team D: Akin (P5 Peace), Mona (P5 Love), Rin (P6 Faith), and Phoenix (P5 Peace). The two teams exchanged congratulations and handshakes. All participants were awarded Certificates of Participation. The SISB community is already looking forward to next year, when the English Debate Tournament will continue to grow!
