Singapore International School Chiangmai celebrated Songkran or Thai New Year on Monday, March 27,2023 before the term break. Students and teachers wore floral and colourful shirts to celebrate together and the Thai department organised various Thai traditional activities for students from Nursery, Kindergarten, and Primary. Some of the activities were:
– Rod Nam Dum Hua (pouring water on Teacher’s hands): This is an important tradition during Songkran and it entails a water-pouring ceremony to ask for forgiveness and blessings from a respected elder.
– Make a traditional Lanna flag ‘Tung Sai Moo’: Thai people use ‘Tung’ to decorate houses and places, or put them on the sand pagodas in the temple area.
– Thai traditional games have been an integral part of Thai culture and traditions since ancient times. These games were originally designed to foster good relationships between adults and young people, as well as to provide entertainment, relaxation, and exercise.
Singapore International School Chiangmai would like to wish you a Happy Thai New Year and share some pictures of our Songkran festival celebrations. Wishing you all happiness and good health in the New Year.
Happy Thai New Year!
