[University Offers 2025] Nisa Chen (University of California, Santa Cruz)

“I joined SISB in Primary 5, right after returning from studying in China. At first, I was terrified because my English wasn’t strong enough to communicate with anyone. But thanks to the support of my teachers and friends, I grew more confident day by day.

In Grade 8, I experienced the reward of my hard work paying off for the first time, which inspired me to push myself further. The most unforgettable moment was starting the IB journey. Though it’s been challenging, I’ve never regretted choosing IB — it has shaped me into a better version of myself. Plus, everyone in my class has their own unique qualities, which has subtly influenced me to adopt a more positive mindset.

I’m grateful for every teacher who has supported me in improving my grades. Each IB teacher has been exceptional, guiding me and teaching me so much throughout my IB journey. I also deeply appreciate T. Benjamin, who helped me refine my personal statement and stayed in touch during the holidays.

Honestly, I’m still unsure about my path. My economics teacher once said that everyone has a talent — something they’re naturally good at without much effort. I don’t think I’ve discovered mine yet, but I’m certain of one thing: I want to contribute meaningfully to society and support those in need.”
