Outdoor Education

Outdoor education is an important part of the SISB curriculum, supporting the development of students beyond the classroom. Students are provided with meaningful opportunities to engage with real-world environments, helping to build independence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of their learning.

Nursery-Kindergarten

In Nursery-Kindergarten, we support our youngest learners in developing curiosity, confidence, and a strong connection to the world around them. At this early stage, outdoor experiences are embedded into daily routines and play-based learning, allowing children to explore, discover, and make sense of their environment in meaningful ways. Students regularly engage in structured and unstructured outdoor activities, including playground exploration, sensory play, nature walks, simple gardening experiences, and age-appropriate field trips.

Primary

Our Primary students participate in field trips and these experiences allow them to explore new environments, ask questions, and develop curiosity through hands-on learning. Primary 2 and  Primary 3 students experience sleeping away from home for the first time, whereas Primary 4 to Primary 6 trips will see our students venture further afield. Designed to further enrich their educational journey, these experiences encourage teamwork, responsibility, and adaptability, while also strengthening relationships between peers and teachers.

Secondary-Sixth Form

The Secondary-Sixth Form school organises Local and Overseas Education Programmes designed to enrich students’ experiences, with several key objectives, such as to enhance classroom learning while fostering essential self-management skills. By facing challenges in new environments, students develop their independence, leadership skills, and confidence. Also, these experiences clarify students’ understanding of the curriculum by presenting previously studied material in practical, real-life contexts.

SISB students also get to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award,  a globally recognised youth development programme that empowers young people to discover their potential, develop essential life skills, and make a positive impact on their communities. It focuses on personal challenge and individual progress rather than competition. Participants design their own programme based on their interests and abilities, cultivating self-motivation and ownership of their learning.
