Loy Krathong at SISB Suvarnabhumi this year was a beautiful celebration that captured the spirit and significance of the cherished Thai tradition. Loy Krathong, which translates to “Float a Krathong” is a festival dedicated to paying respect to the Goddess of Water and letting go of misfortunes from the past year. Throughout the day, our campus was transformed into a cultural hub with various stations that offered students a taste of Thai traditions. Teachers led activities that included Thai games and stations that provided insight into Thai culture. Students also enjoyed the chance to participate in hands-on, interactive experiences such as krathong-making, where students could create their own decorative floats with banana stems and leaves which were then floated in the river.
This year, we also introduced a dessert wrap making stall. Using banana leaves, the students made traditional wraps of some of Thailand’s classics, deepening their appreciation for, and understanding of Thai cuisine. Overall, the event was a memorable blend of tradition, creativity, and community, highlighting the beauty of Loy Krathong and bringing us all closer during this remarkable festival.
