On Dec 16, more than 100 Primary 1 to 6 students from various SISB Campuses came together to participate in a 2-day, 1 night Math Boot Camp conducted by Mr. Terry Chew and his team of trainers from the Terry Chew Academy. Mr.Terry Chew BSc. is the coach and author of the celebrated series ‘Maths Olympiad – Unleash The Maths Olympian in You!’ and ‘Wicked Mathematics’. His strong and proven critical thinking teaching methodology is used in maths tuition classes in Singapore for students aged 5 to 18.
Students were introduced to various critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques which are relevant and useful when applied to the Singapore Mathematics Curriculum as well as Math Olympiad Competitions. During the camp, students had to take on a task: The Catapult Challenge. Given a limited amount of time and materials, students worked in groups of four to create the Best Design Catapult and a chance to win the “Miles Away” Award. The catapults were judged by PU Primary Principal Hero Lee. Congratulations to all the winners!
Our students are now better equipped with tools to simplify challenging problems and Math Olympiad questions. Everyone has enjoyed the camp immensely and we look forward to the next Math Boot Camp in 2023! In SISB, everyone can be a mathematician!
